NUI Galway Triathlon Club aims to promote the sport of triathlon to students,
staff and graduates of the National University of Ireland Galway.
Sport has always been integral part of life for the staff and students of NUI Galway.
Over the years the individual disciplines of swimming, biking and running have
been catered for by their respective clubs. In 2014 the NUI Galway Triathlon Club
was formed with an overarching aim of bridging the sporting gap between each
discipline, while adding a triathlon specific focal point for the staff, student and
alumni community of NUI Galway.
The NUI Galway Triathlon club caters for complete beginners to seasoned athletes
by providing a community, for members to train and race together. The club operates
throughout the year by providing seasonal training options. Throughout the winter
months training consists of mid-day runs, spinning classes and indoor swim sessions.
These sessions are aimed at members for spring races while training in a safe, fun and
knowledgeable environment. We recognise that set training times can be restrictive through lectures and work commitments, with that in mind our club utilises Strava (a free training aid which is compatible with most smartphones and GPS watches) to help record, compare and motivate others to put in the extra rep while training. Along with Strava our club operates a Facebook group, which allows members up
to date on activities and events.
Along with providing a training platform for members the club actively supports
members who compete in events, single discipline or multi-discipline, whether racing
to win or to finish the club aims to give members the support and encouragement they
need to accomplish their individual goals.
