    The NUI Galway LGFA & Ladies Soccer hosted a successful sporting event in the new year. The football event took place in January on the President's pitch across from the quad. NUI Galway Ladies’ Soccer Club faced NUI Galway Ladies’ G.A.A. Club. The first half was played under soccer rules and the second half under LGFA rules. All donations were greatly received and given to a charity of the Sports Unit’s choice.     The opening event of the President's Cup was a major success. Members of the different colleges within the university took part on the day and everyone enjoyed this sporting event. Indoor cricket was the activity and a lot of students participated and competed against one another. Many thanks are extended to the students, staff and organizers who all the took part.The next event is Indoor Tag Ruby on Wednesday the 31st January at 12noon to 2pm.     Last Saturday, NUIG's golfing staff took on the student golf team on the windy links of Connemara Golf Club. This was the first year such a match had been played. The staff defeated the students in the handicapped match between the two teams, but the students will be looking for revenge next year as the rivalry hopes to continue annually.17 students took on 15 staff members in what was a very enjoyable and social event, and NUIG Golf Club would like to thank all involved. ...

    The second of four regional IUSA - (Irish University Sailing Association) events took place in Lough Erne Yacht Club, Fermanagh, Northern Ireland on the 10th-12th November. The IUSA Northerns were hosted by our good friends from Queens University Belfast in what was an extremely enjoyable 2 days of sailing soaking up the spectacular scenery that the North has to offer. NUIG entered two teams in Silver and Bronze Fleet and performed extremely well in what was a challenging course due to the light wind conditions and superb competition from other colleges.     NUI Galway TaeKwon Do attend the British T.A.G.B. TaeKwon Do TournamentOn the 5th of November, four members of NUI Galway’s Taekwondo Team travelled to Birmingham as part of the Tae Kwon-Do Ireland (T.K.D.I.) international team to face off against many other countries in the TAGB British Championships. With over 1500 competitors and 30 rings, it was one of the biggest competitions around.     NUIG 2 and NUIG 3 both played again this weekend. NUIG 2 played in Division 1 against Greenfields 2, despite putting in a great performance the girls were defeated 5-2. Congratulations to NUIG 3 with their second win of the season, 4-0 against Renmore. NUIG 1 play their first league match against Galway 1 tomorrow evening in Dangan and their first Irish Trophy match away in Waterford on Saturday. ...

    NUIG Hockey had a great start to the 17/18 Connacht League with NUIG 2 beating Kinvara 4-0 in Division 1 and NUIG 3 beating Athlone 8-0 in division 2! Both teams play again this weekend and hope to keep up this strong start to the season. ...
