    NUIG faced a formidable opponent today in the form of DIT. The bleachers were full of supporters for the Galway lads in the Kingfisher sports hall. The game started with an impressive outside shooting display from both teams with DIT enjoying a small lead throughout the first quarter. A great passing effort from NUIG's Patrick Lyons (5) and Eoin Rockall (9) kept the guys within 7 points going into the second quarter. The second quater started off with a trading of points from both teams. The atmosphere in the gym started to become tense after some decisions by the referees upset the away sides ...

    We are only half way through this years first semester and already the club has played a lot of great ultimate. We kicked the year off at Trinity Tea Party up in Dublin and put in a fantastic performance. Our women's team went undefeated and topped their division taking home the Trinity Tea Pot. We sent two men's teams, both put on an amazing display with NUIG 1 coming second and NUIG 2 coming third.     The Muay Thai club are going on their first trip of the year this October: Paintball!The paintball trip is taking place in Delta Force, Bray on Saturday the 15th of October. There will be a full day's paintballing for €30, and an affordable bus will organised to and from Bray for anyone interested. If you want to join, get your name to the committee at training asap, as it will be a case of first-come-first-served for deposits paid in order to get a spot. Daniel regularly makes the trip to improve his kendo and practice with high level practitioners.     This year and week saw the start of a specific ‘Strength and Conditioning for Karate’ class, which will run twice a week. The inaugural class was a coaching class lead by a high performance athlete and Olympic Weightlifting Coach. Again we had maximum attendance at this and the feedback has been 100% positive.     Our first ‘Grappling for Karate’ class took place on Wednesday 28th of September and we had a full house. The class is available to all Karate club members of any skill level.  The focus will be the Koryu Uchinadi Kenpo-jutsu ground self-defence syllabus heavily influenced by Aiki Kenpo Ju Jutsu, but with flavours from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Wrestling etc. We will have guest instructors ‘drop in’ from time to time to share their knowledge in the grappling arts and multiple seminars throughout the year.
