    The Muay Thai club are going on their first trip of the year this October: Paintball!The paintball trip is taking place in Delta Force, Bray on Saturday the 15th of October. There will be a full day's paintballing for €30, and an affordable bus will organised to and from Bray for anyone interested. If you want to join, get your name to the committee at training asap, as it will be a case of first-come-first-served for deposits paid in order to get a spot.     Sunday 25 September saw NUIG Kendo Club Captain Daniel Mulcahy attend the monthly national squad training in Dublin. Daniel regularly makes the trip to improve his kendo and practice with high level practitioners. He hopes to be considered for the squad in the months to come, and that NUIG can help him achieve this goal.  ...

    This year and week saw the start of a specific ‘Strength and Conditioning for Karate’ class, which will run twice a week. The inaugural class was a coaching class lead by a high performance athlete and Olympic Weightlifting Coach. Again we had maximum attendance at this and the feedback has been 100% positive.     Our first ‘Grappling for Karate’ class took place on Wednesday 28th of September and we had a full house. The class is available to all Karate club members of any skill level.  The focus will be the Koryu Uchinadi Kenpo-jutsu ground self-defence syllabus heavily influenced by Aiki Kenpo Ju Jutsu, but with flavours from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Wrestling etc. We will have guest instructors ‘drop in’ from time to time to share their knowledge in the grappling arts and multiple seminars throughout the year.     Tuesday 13th of September 2016, our official 'first class' of the new term at 18:00 in the Kingfisher. And what a class, great atmosphere, enthusiasm and attendance.     Yesterday evening saw the 2nd 3x3 Planet.com recreational basketball session  take place in NUI Galway. 63 Players participated and Matt Hall , technical director with Basketball Ireland was in attendance to assist with the 3x3 Planet.com event manager software. This is the first time a 3x3 recreational session has been ran in a university in Ireland and from the feedback received it is going to be a very enjoyable and successful 2 hours of basketball.  ...

    The 7th of September saw the return of NUIG Archery Club after a successful outdoor summer season.With the start of a new academic year, we welcomed all at the first clubs day, which saw over 450 new members sign-up. Students from all over the world signed up and attended the first of our beginners sessions, held every Wednesday. A lot of natural talent came to surface as people who had never even held a bow were hitting the bullseye!     University Playing Fields Dangan – Sunday 13/09/2015NUIG RFC got their season off to a flying start with a comprehensive victory over Ballyhaunis in the Curley Cup on Sunday. The cup, in it’s 3rd year, is named after Hugh Curley, one of the founders of Ballyhaunis RFC and the Mayo men were in no mood to let the students halt their progress in the competition.     We would like to thank all the players and people that attended our event on a very pleasant day in Galway Golf Club.     Sunday the 19th of October NUI Galway's TaeKwon-Do Club attended the Connacht Championships in Oranmore.     During the first week of semester one the NUI Galway TKD Club was happy to welcome members new and old, and was itself reminded of the joy involved in a progressive discipline such as Taekwon-Do that can offer so much to the students and the trainers alike. It did not take long to fall in and line-up at the first training session. We all trained together and then apart in separate belt grades, before joining back together for some stretching. The committee used the camera and took pictures of the high speed action during training, which were later uploaded to the NUI Galway TKD Facebook page. ...

But what a glorious day it was for the troop that made its way down to Innishannon in Cork from Galway on Sunday, 14th of October 2012. Two cars, eight people, three girls, five lads, one goal – to win all the medals at the competition.Adrian’s car left the Kingfisher in the freezing October cold at 9am on Sunday.     With a member pulling out of our team at the last moment and the largest number of entries in the National Intervarsity Competition, the odds were against the NUIG Equestrian team.Spirits were running high though and you could see the determination on the faces of the show jumping team of Samantha Duffy, Joey Igoe, and John Philbin as they entered the ring. This determination shone through in their scores as they all proceeded to the second round, a first for a NUIG team.The second round brought with it some eventful displays and our team rode out of their skins.
